During previous Olympic Games hosted in China, the communist nation may have used the global stage to convince the world of its modernized, 'new and improved' democracy. Not this time. In 2022, China is using the Beijing Winter Olympics to present a giant middle finger to us all, Glenn says. And China’s choice to have a Uighur athlete carry the Olympic torch proves it.
